Finding a little about the history of your Early Falcon can be
fun as well as rewarding and good authentic restoration starts
with good research. If you’re lucky enough to still have the original
ID plate attach to the vehicle here are some clues to help you
name the original colour.
On the 1960 ID plate the Paint Code takes the form of 4 digits
the first being the primer coat. The following 3 digits are good
for all models of Falcon. The first of the three is the roof colour,
the second the middle colour and the last the lower colour.
The colour patches on this page are only an approximation, no
two computer monitors will display a colour the same way unless
they have been technically aligned side-by-sdie. A good way to
see the original colour of a vehicle is to remove some part of
the trim covering the body paint where it has not faded. Around
areas of the doors and boot are often a good places to look.
The following table is split into years defined by the date year
code. That is the penultimate letter in the Serial Prefix ID.
The letters along side the paint colour name correlate to the
letters, or in some cases numbers, of the Paint code in the ID
plate.
Hint from Wayne at Classic Falcon Patrs The most correct
off-the-shelf colour for the rocker cover and air cleaner on the
XM and XP with a 200ci motor is a Mitsubishi colour called Topaz
Gold small touch up tins can be bought at Holts or Powerplus.
